What it does
BGE Base English v1.5 is a BAAI model for turning short English text into searchable meaning. It helps people find the right passage even when their question uses different terms from the document.
The Base variant returns 768-dimensional vectors, smaller than the Large English variant. This can reduce vector storage in a large collection of short entries. Its source context is limited to 512 tokens, and this service applies a conservative byte limit to avoid truncating customer content.

When to choose it
Consider it for short, English-only collections when a compact index matters. Compare its search results with BGE Large on the same customer questions before choosing.
It is not a multilingual model. Split longer documents into short passages, and use BGE-M3 when broad language coverage is needed. Compact vectors do not automatically mean the lowest service price.
